Healthy Body, Healthy Mind

As you’ve probably heard; a healthy body means a healthy mind – and in order to succeed in school your mind needs to be at its all time best. While you may feel swamped by all of the readings and assignments to do, it is crucial that you fit in an hour here or there to take a break and get some exercise.

I hope by now you have been made aware that TrentU Durham gives all of its students City of Oshawa gym memberships through tuition. This is a great way to stay active! As campus is right beside the Civic Centre you could run over quickly before/after class and get in a quick workout! I’m not asking you to get ripped, but just make it a part of your routine to make sure you do something active everyday. Even if it is just going to the gym and walking on the treadmill or maybe riding a stationary bike. If you’ve always wanted to go to the gym to get that summer body, maybe this is your opportunity to work toward it as you already have the membership through school. All you have to do is go to the Civic and get a membership card with your picture on it – and you are ready to go!

Another great way to stay active is with the school’s intermural sports! As I mentioned in another post TrentU Durham runs intermural soccer on Monday nights and dodge ball on Wednesday nights, at the Civic Centre right beside the campus. This is a great way to make friends and stay active even if soccer or dodge ball isn’t your strongest suit!

It lowers the risk of stroke, heart disease, osteoporosis, etc. It also can help regulate and control stress, mood, and sleep. What more could a university student ask for? All you need is 30-60 minutes a day to get all of these great benefits! Taking time to be active also keeps your cognitive abilities in check which means better writing/reading, better thought processes, which means better marks!

I can’t stress enough how important exercise is to doing well in school! It is also great for your overall health, it boosts your immune system and keeps all of your functions in order. Whether you go to the gym, participate in intermural sports, play a sport you’ve loved your whole life, ride your bike to school or you think of your own way to stay fit it will only benefit you in the long run! Stay Active!
