Hey everyone! It’s that wonderful time of year where the weather is heating up, pools are opening and the freezer is packed with popsicles. Yes, spring is coming to an end and summer is officially beginning! The beginning of summer also marks an important event for all new September 2016 Trent University Durham students….can you guess? If you guessed Summer Academic Kickstart/Summer Orientation then you are 100% correct.

What is Summer Academic Kickstart 2016?

For all of you who read the previous paragraph and had no clue what I was referring to, this paragraph should fix those worries. Every year, towards the end of June Trent University Durham hosts a Summer Academic Kickstart for all new students starting in September. This year the orientation will be on Saturday, June 25th, 2016 from 9:00am-4:30pm. The orientation answers plenty of “first time university bound” questions ranging from course registration to financial aid information. All new students are expected to (and should) attend the orientation! Parents and/or Guardians are free to attend as well.

My Experience with Summer Academic Kickstart 2015

I had a super positive experience at last year’s Summer Academic Kickstart. It was a very informative day that eased my first year university worries! First and foremost, I found the course registration help extremely beneficial. I am going to be honest course registration, at first, seemed really complicated. But with the help of academic advisors during orientation it taught me how to be a course registration pro! So when it came time for me to set up my timetable later on, it was a no brainer. Also, besides the helpful academic and finical information that summer orientation offers, it is also a great opportunity to meet future classmates! So when it comes time for Fall Orientation maybe you will see familiar faces.

Overall, the Summer Academic Kickstart is a great experience- one that all new students should have! I really appreciate Trent Durham for organizing such an event, because, truth be told, first year of university brings intense worries and fears of the “unknown” for many students. But with the power of information, these worries are easily relieved and you can spend the rest of the summer excited to start a new journey! I hope to see you all there! 🙂

Ciao. xx
