Hello and welcome back to school! The summer is over and it’s time to get ready for a great year at TrentU Durham. I am trying to make my third year here my best yet, and the best way to help me achieve my goal: getting involved. Funnily enough, it just so happens to be TrentU Durham’s Get Involved Week! To help both me and you start the year off right, here is a look at some of the amazing clubs that you can find around the campus.
I’ll start off this list with some questions: do you like animated movies and tv shows? Do you like watching these things while making new friends and eating awesome snacks? If your answer is “yes!” then the Animation Appreciation Association is the perfect club for you to check out. This club is run with one goal in mind, to have fun watching good animation (or sometimes cheesy bad animation) and they are looking for anyone who thinks that would be a good time.
If you are interested in literature of any kind then this is the club you should check out. Reading awesome books, writing fun stories and going on crazy awesome trips are some of the things in store for you this year with the Trent Durham English Society. They have a ton of fun things planned for this year so you don’t want to miss your opportunity to join in and make some great new friends.
Do you like having fun being weird and saying whatever pops into your head? Are you a fan of the show Whose Line is it Anyway? The Trent Durham Improv Troupe is a group of people who answered yes to those two questions and have since lost the ability to say no. It’s a guaranteed good time with some weird in all the right ways people.
The Pen Pals program is an amazing opportunity to make a difference in the lives of some of the kids in the TrentU Durham community. As a member of this group you can have a penpal from an elementary school in the area and even get to meet up for a few special occasions during the year. It’s a fantastic program to check out.
If anyone has ever asked you if they can take a look at your notes then this is probably the perfect group for you. The Academic Mentoring Program gives you a chance to help fellow students get a handle on their education with studying, essay writing, research help and much more. Whether as a mentor or a student, I encourage you to check out this group–it will never hurt and can always help.
Business @ Trent is an incredible resource for any student seeking to improve their networking skills, touch up their resume and meet friends interested in building or forming businesses. This club puts on spectacular events throughout the year aimed at educating the TrentU Durham populace on all things business.
This year will be an incredible one with these clubs and groups and the many many more that TrentU Durham offers–as long as you Get Involved! Check out the Clubs page on the myTDSA website for a full list of clubs and don’t forget that the Student Life Blog is also looking for more writers. If your excuse is that none of these clubs interest you, or none of the others you will pass by this week in the TrentU Durham hallway do, then I have a challenge for you. Make your own club! All it takes is a few like minded friends and a talk with the Trent Durham Student Association. So don’t let your year go to waste, get up, get out and Get Involved!
