It feels a little silly to be doing another event roundup a week after posting the first, but there are literally so many events happening in March that I wasn’t able to talk about them all last time.
First of all: Semiformal is TONIGHT! Buy your tickets for $15 at the TDSA office or for $20 at the door. The whole shindig starts at 6:30, and there will be dinner and dancing—and awards and photos. Semi is one of my favourite TrentU Durham events (the other being Fall Orientation) so I’ll be seeing you all there! Check out the Facebook event for more details, or stop by the TDSA office.
Paint Nite is happening tomorrow night. For a full rundown of the event, and to buy tickets, check out the Paint Nite event site. There are posters on campus with QR codes, too, if you want to do it that way. So buy your ticket, get some food and drinks, paint a masterpiece, and support a good cause—money will be going to Joanne’s House.
So, after these two busy days, following what has already been a very busy week: PART TWO!
Monday, March 13, from 5-7 pm, there will be a Women’s Self-Defence Training course happening in the Front Atrium. The instructor is fine with you leaving early, so if you want to beat the boredom before a 6:30 class and pick up some new skills, this is the thing to do! Talk to Nick Ryan on campus today and ask how to get your name on the list of participants.
Tuesday, March 14, from 1-4 pm, is the TrentU Durham Open House. It’s kind of a big deal. If you are accepting an offer to TrentU Durham, you should come to this event—even if you’ve been for a tour or went to the Fall Open House. Smokes Poutinery is going to have a truck outside the front doors, there will be a club fair, tours, and sessions with different faculty and staff throughout the course of the day. If you are a current TrentU Durham student: be aware that Tuesday is going to be loud and busy in the Atrium and the Library Hallway in the afternoon, but you also have access to the Smokes stand if you’ve got money. Click HERE to register for the Open House!
Wednesday, March 15, from 1-2 pm, there will be an Accessibility workshop happening in room 105. This workshop will discuss the Accessibility for Ontarian with Disabilities Act (AODA) and how you it challenging institutionalized norms (those things your parents or your grandparents or “everyone” thinks). This will be an interesting workshop to attend, especially for any students who are planning on entering politics or business as part of their careers—but it will be an eye-open for everyone. Check out the Leadership website for more info on the event, and to register.
Friday, March 17, from 5-7 pm, is the TrentU Durham Muslim Student Association Gala Dinner. Tickets are on sale (for the last day) NOW in front of the library, for $20. The entire proceeds will be going to the Muslim Welfare Center. There will be a lovely dinner, a henna both, and a raffle! It’s going to be a great event, so get your tickets by 2 pm today! And let an MSA executive know if you have any dietary restrictions before 2 pm as well.
This covers most of the major March events happening on campus—but I’ll be sure to let you know when more come up! And keep your eyes peeled for information on the Winter Annual General Meeting, because it’s something you won’t want to miss.
