We might not all be on campus right now, but we do share one thing in common: the need to eat. Whether you’re living in residence or studying and working from home, I’ve put together a list of some of the best and closest restaurants to our Durham GTA campus. Included are some small-business restaurants, as well as a few notable chain restaurants and their distances from the school.
If you can, make sure to check out the small businesses on this list to get some great food AND support local. Many of them offer their own delivery, as well as UberEats or Skip The Dishes.
Restaurants
Dines Family Restaurant – 400 King St W, Oshawa
Distance from campus: 6 minute drive
In business since 1964, Dines has been a staple of Oshawa history. They have all day breakfast, lunch, and dinner (so basically all your dining needs). I personally recommend the Belgian Waffles with chocolate chips and whipped cream.
Phở Việt Nam 999 – 299 King St W, Oshawa
Distance from campus: 6 minute drive
You can get authentic and *delicious* Vietnamese dishes at this family restaurant just a few minutes away.
Smoke’s Poutinerie – 75 King St E, Oshawa
Distance from campus: 7 minute drive
Calling all poutine lovers! Located in downtown Oshawa, this restaurant has some of the best and weirdest poutine around. They have tater-tot poutine, so I’m sold already.
Reetaj Middle Eastern Restaurant – 7 Nassau St, Oshawa
Distance from campus: 7 minute drive
Also located in downtown Oshawa, Reetaj provides 100% Halal, authentic Middle Eastern cuisine. Give it a try!
Fast Food:
Wendy’s – 323 King St W, Oshawa
Distance from campus: 7 minute drive
Tim Hortons – 338 King St W, Oshawa
Distance from campus: 5 minute drive
Tim Hortons (again) – 211 King St E, Oshawa
Distance from campus: 8 minute drive
Even though we can’t sit down for a bite to eat, we can still grab some grub using drive-thru and delivery. Feel free to use this list for future reference as well, when we can finally dine in again. As always, don’t forget to support our local restaurants!
